Filmmaking for Maggie’s
“A complete professional”
“Duncan set the gold-standard for freelancer work at Maggie’s. Quick to master each and every brief, over time his thoughtful and attentive manner helped to change how our brand worked on film for the better. He’s brilliant with a broad range contributors, flexible and understanding in shoot days, and always collaborative in the edit. A complete professional, I would recommend him in a heartbeat.”
– George Bustin, Creative Lead at Maggie’s

I have worked extensively with Maggie’s, producing a range of films that support their mission of providing free cancer support across the UK.
My work with them spans recruitment, campaigns, staff training, and storytelling through short documentaries. Below is a selection of projects that showcase the breadth of this collaboration.
Recruitment Film: More than Just a Job
Maggie’s needed a film to attract talented professionals to join their team. The result was a warm, human-focused film that highlights the impact of their work, featuring real staff and the people they support.
Christmas Campaign: What Really Matters
A heartfelt campaign film created to increase engagement and fundraising during the festive season. The project combined intimate storytelling with visually compelling moments to communicate the importance of Maggie’s work.
Pre-Treatment Films: Getting Started
These short films were designed to reassure and guide individuals preparing for cancer treatment. Through personal stories and expert advice, they provide a supportive and informative resource for those facing uncertainty. These aren’t publicly viewable, but are shown in facilitated workshops at the centres.
Staff Induction Videos
To streamline the onboarding process for new staff, I created a series of induction videos that introduce new employees to Maggie’s core values, operations, and working culture. These aren’t publicly available to view, but can be shown on request, and were filmed in the same style as the interviews in More than Just a Job.
Short Documentaries: Olivia’s Story
Bringing Maggie’s human-centred approach to life, I have created a number of short documentaries such as Olivia’s Story capturing real stories of people who have benefited from their support. These films are used for awareness, fundraising, and training purposes. Olivia’s Story was made when Maggie’s was the charity partner for the UCI Cycling Championships in Glasgow 2023.
Photography
Alongside filmmaking, I have provided professional yet natural supporting photography for Maggie’s, ensuring their branding maintains a warm, authentic feel.
